An officer's Albert shako-plate of the Cameronians.
An officer's Albert shako-plate of the Cameronians.
A rare example. The gilt star inscribed 'Corunna' and 'Egypt' on the horizontal rays. Central circlet inscribed 'Cameronians' within a laurel wreath surmounted by a small Sphinx. Below the wreath a scroll inscribed 'China' above a small mullet in white enamel. Now with crude replacement centre to the circlet and lacking the Chinese dragon.
Note: A drawing made by Leila Ryan of a shako-plate of 1844 - 55 in the Cameronians Museum shows it as this example but the centre has '26' in gilt metal on a white enamel mullet, and a small dragon below the 'China' scroll.
