A RARE FRANKISH WINGED SPEAR 8TH/11TH CENTURY

with leaf-shaped double-edged blade of flattened-diamond section, the central portion showing pattern welding in places, tapering socket deeply engraved with a pair of characteristic linear panels on the front, back and each side, the latter with a pair of short wings at the base, each with curved lower edge, and later short wooden haft (the edges and wings with small chips), 51.0 cm head
