A RARE OTTOMAN EMBROIDERED SADDLE AND SADDLE CLOTH, BALKANS, MID-19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY GREECE the saddle with wooden tree rising up at the front to a pronounced bow, the back formed with a tall cantle, and the greater part of its surface covered with hide stitched with sinew, with fitted leather-backed cover, the outer surface heavily embroidered in gilt thread with geometric flowers and scrollwork, border of plaited wool and seat of blue velvet, leather-backed saddle cloth, breast collar with large brass and iron buckles and face plate all decorated en suite and with tasselled borders, an additional strap for the rump and later bridle (faded, small losses and areas of wear) 49.5 cm; 19 1/2 in high
