AN 11 BORE BALKAN FLINTLOCK GUN

AN 11 BORE BALKAN FLINTLOCK GUN, LATE 18TH CENTURY with octagonal sighted barrel retained by three shaped silver bands each engraved with conventional flowers and foliage, the rear most incorporating the back-sight, chiselled with scrolls at the muzzle, French rounded lock signed Berthon-Bourlier et fils, engraved with a bird beneath a tree on the tail, fitted with roller, engraved cock and steel, the former chiselled with a scroll, full stock inlaid with silver wire lines, scrolls and foliage, a basket of conventional foliage enclosing the tang, the lock and side-plate each enclosed by a leafy framework, silver wire trellis over the fore-end and the grip, the latter extending along the underside and terminating in a scroll, butt inlaid with elaborate scrolling foliage and flowers on each side, silver mounts comprising border-engraved side-plate, trigger-guard with foliate terminals and broad bow, shaped butt-plate engraved with scrolls, two sling swivels and fore-end cap, (later ramrod) 113.7 cm; 44 3/4 in barrel
