Painted circa 1960 within a year of the Cronyns' purchasing Adyar Studio in Flanders Road, on the edge of Bedford Park, Chiswick. The splendid Arts and Crafts house boasted a magnificent studio on the first floor. In his early career Cronyn was a prolific and successful portrait painter.
