‡PAUL MCPHAIL (B. 1966) HEAD OF A MAN signed l.r.: McPhail monotype 122 cm by 92 cm; 48 in by 36 in sold together with another monotype of the head of a boy by the same hand (2) McPhail was a prize-winning student at Glasgow School of Art where he undertook postgraduate studies in 1990. Today he is best-known as having been the long-term partner of the painter Jenny Saville. His own style belongs to the powerful uncompromising school of realism that characterises Saville's work and the two artists have had a significant mutual influence on each other.
