AN INDIAN DAGGER (KATAR)

AN INDIAN DAGGER (KATAR), LATE 16TH CENTURY, PROBABLY VIZIANGARAM with strongly tapering double-edged blade cut with a series of converging fullers over much of its surface on each face, iron hilt retaining some early silver plated finish extending over the forte, including recurved frontal guard of V-section, with monsterhead terminal, a pair of scrolling bars, a pair of tapering side bars each with bud-shaped finial, and a pair of grip bars with large globular central mouldings Provenance Wallis & Wallis, 16th May 1984, lot 1836.
