A NORTH EUROPEAN MILITARY SWORD 'TESSAK', LATE 16TH CENTURY with curved blade double-edged towards the point, cut with a long shallow fuller on each face and with traces of a stamped mark on the reverse, steel hilt of flattened bars comprising vertically-recurved quillons swelling towards the tips and with flattened bud-shaped finials, knuckle-guard swelling in the centre, broad shaped outer-guard with bud-shaped terminal at the top fitting into the pommel, attached to the knuckle-guard by an additional curved bar, inner ring-guard, thumb-loop, low pyramidal pommel, and leather-covered wooden grip 82.5cm; 32 1/2in blade
