The present work is a study for a larger portrait commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Barber Surgeons in May 1994. Ramos painted a number of portraits of H.M. The Queen & H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, as well as other prominent members of British society. During the 1950's and 1960's, he was responsible for the design of the exhibition posters of the Royal Academy of Arts, radically altering their traditional template so that they focused instead on the image rather than the text.
