A RARE HUNGARIAN SWORD

A RARE HUNGARIAN SWORD, 9TH/10TH CENTURY in excavated condition, with long straight blade double-edged for the last 18cm, the forte enclosed by a shaped panel extending over the edge of the blade on each side, slightly grooved tang pierced with three holes and retaining a pair of rivets for attaching the grips, straight cross-piece formed of a pair of spatulate quillons of differing length and a central diamond-shaped panel on each side 110cm; 43 1/4in blade A similar sword is preserved in the National Museum, Budapest.
