European Works of Art, Objects & Silver

The auction ‘European Works of Art, Objects and Silver’ is one of our biannual live sales offering a range of ceramics, sculpture, works of art and silver from around the world, as well as objects of vertu and portrait miniatures.  

The sales include early Maiolica to Chelsea, Sèvres and Meissen ceramics up to more recent works such as Wedgwood Fairyland lustre.  The works of art section comprises sculpture of the 12th century through to 18th, 19th and 20th century objects in bronze, marble, wood, stone, terracotta, plaster, enamel, stained glass, metalwork and treen.  We sell silver from all the notable producers such as Paul Storr for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, Matthew Boulton, Hunt & Roskell, Garrards and Aspreys, and pieces by less well-known makers which are none the less good quality, unusual, or interesting examples of a particular type or style.  

Among the objects of vertu in these sales are snuff boxes, gold boxes, scent bottles, enamels, fans, small silverwork, intaglio and cameos that came to be collected by ‘connoisseurs’ from the 17th century onwards.   We also have a portrait miniature section and previous sales have included examples by most of the classic English artists from Cooper through to Smart, Engleheart, Cosway and Plimer, as well as lesser-known names. We also offer the full range of Continental miniatures including boites à miniatures.
