‡ A RARE SWEDISH PALACE GUARD SWORD, LATE 17TH CENTURY
with tapering blade of flattened diamond section stamped with three rectangular marks on one side along the forte, rectangular ricasso struck with the three crowns mark of Sweden on both sides, hilt comprising ovoidal guard with integral side-bars swept-up to join the knuckle-guard, one of the former with triple central swellings, the latter with beaked flattened terminal, down-bent rear quillon with swelling terminal, globular pommel with flattened tang button and grip bound with twisted and plain copper alloy wire between Turk’s heads (old pitting overall), 88.8 cm blade
