AFTER LORENZO BARTOLINI (1777-1850): VENUS

an alabaster figure, Italian, 19th century, carved reclining against cushions, 16cm high, 32cm long

The original large sculpture by Lorenzo Bartolini is in the Musée Fabre, Montpelier, and dates from circa 1820. There is a copy of the original in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, dated circa 1822. Bartolini based this sculpture on Titian's Venus of Urbino in the Uffizi Gallery.
