a French brown patinated bronze figure, Bardedienne Foundry, Paris, circa 1849, the personnification of Liberty (or Marianne) holding a rifle to her left and clutching in her other hand laurel branches and a scroll inscribed '1830 / 1848' commemorating the July Monarchy, square base inscribed to front 'LIBERTÉ LIBERTÉ CHERIE / COMBATS AVEC TES DÉFENSEURS', signed and dated to one side 'P.J. DAVID / 1849', to the other 'F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR.', mounted on a black slate square plinth, bronze 14cm high, overall 24.5cm
