SWORD CUTLER’S TO HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE OF WALES, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY

of regulation pattern, with tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section bright over two thirds of its length to the point, the forte etched and gilt against a blued ground along both sides with Turkish trophies, cabalistic symbols, turbans, a sun-in-splendour and foliage, gilt copper alloy hilt comprising double shell-guard, rear quillon and faceted pommel all cast and chased with foliage, bevelled knuckle-guard retaining its bullion sword-knot, and grip bound with twisted silver wire, in its black leather scabbard (some old wear) tooled with crossed double line ornament along one side beneath the locket, linear engraved locket and chape, the former with frog-button and suspension ring, engraved with retailer’s details in an oval on one side, and retaining nearly all its original finish, 83.0 cm blade
