Irwin Esq., blue cloth facings and piping, the collar edged with gold regimental lace, bearing large eagle badges in gold embroidery, gold cord Austrian knots, edged with gold Russia braid, on sleeves, the skirt-slashes also trimmed with gold cord, plaited gold shoulder-cords with Lt Colonel's rank-badges, gilt Regimental buttons; together with a pair of blue pantaloons (military riding-breeches) with wide yellow cloth stripes; a pair of matching overalls; an Officer's Pouchbelt (pouch absent) and Swordbelt of the Royals faced with ornate regimental gold lace, trimmed each side with Russia, the belts with blue cloth edge, pouch belt with richly ornate gilt buckle, tip and slide, waist belt with oblong frosted gilt plate mounted with Edward VII cypher and crown, oak leaf sprays and Royal motto scroll in white-metal, two sword slings matching the belt and with square billet-buckles.

Thomas Strutt Irwin was a Captain in the Royals in 1914, though serving as Adjutant to the Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry. He was promoted Major in 1915 and survived the Great War.
