AN 1827 PATTERN OFFICER’S SWORD OF THE CEYLON RIFLES RETAILED BY BUCKMASTER

of regulation pattern, with slightly curved pipe-back blade etched along both sides with a crown above a slung bugle horn centred on ‘CEYLON RIFLE’ and between foliage, one side with retailer’s details surmounted by crossed banners, steel hilt incorporating a pierced crowned slung bugle horn in an oval, and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip (worn), in its steel scabbard (pitted) with two suspension rings, 82.0 cm blade
The Ceylon Mounted Rifles (also known as The Horse) were the only cavalry regiment attached to the Ceylon Defence Force which was the predecessor to the Sri Lanka Army prior to the formation of the Ceylon Army in 1949.
