with brightly polished sharply tapering blade (small areas of surface rust) of hollow triangular section, the forte on both sides etched with panel of hatched foliated strapwork, characteristic hilt cast, pierced and chased in low relief with martial trophies and foliage between bright-cut borders, swelling grip bound with twisted and plain silver wire, and in fine condition, in original vellum-covered scabbard with silver locket and chape, the latter chased en suite with the hilt and including frog-hook and iron ring for suspension, the inner side pricked with retailer’s details, 86.3 cm blade

Mark Boch (I) (1729-82) is recorded as a citizen and weaver of London. He was trained as a gilder and chaser and was by profession a silver-hilt maker and sword cutler.
