the tapering blade with shallow double fuller along the back over most of its length on both sides to the double-edged point, the fullers on both sides of the forte incised ‘IOVN ME FACIT’ between quatrefoil marks, iron guard of rectangular bars framing fretted panels pierced with stylised hearts and circles within incised line borders, the main panels centred on saltires each with small central piercing, the fluted side panels each with ‘ram’s horn’ terminal pierced with a stylised heart, the scrolled wrist-guard engraved ‘A’ beneath, bun-shaped pommel fluted between incised lines and with separate tang button, and fishskin-wrapped grip bound with a strand of twisted wire between a Turk’s head and a ferrule, 84.2 cm blade
