A SCOTTISH ‘RIBBON’-HILTED BROADSWORD, LAST QUARTER OF THE 17TH CENTURY

with tapering double-edged blade cut with two narrow fullers over both sides of the forte retaining traces of Andrea Ferara inscription, russet hilt of broad flat bars involving two saltires each pierced with a hole and flanked on either side by an ‘S’, most of the bars incised with line decoration, rudimentary quillons, bun-shaped pommel with flattened button, and writhen leather-covered grip (old rust patination), 83.0 cm blade
