Mustafa Monwar is one of the best known figures in the arts in Bangladesh. He was born in Jessore in Bengal Presidency, British India, and trained at the Government College of Art and Craft in Calcutta. As well as painting, he is known as a teacher, writer and broadcaster. He is particularly celebrated for his puppet shows which he devised in the refugee camps during the war of independence.
