Jimbo Lateef is one of the most distinctive voices among a new generation of Nigerian artists. He studied Creative Art at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, where he developed a singular approach that fuses contemporary calligraphy with portraiture, combining the two in layered, visually dense compositions that evoke the quality of digital imagery. His calligraphic marks, drawn from his Yoruba heritage and from the broader tradition of Islamic graphic culture, serve simultaneously as formal structure, personal signature and narrative device, imbuing each work with an almost scriptural intensity. His work has been exhibited at Chilli Art Gallery, London, and internationally through Thinkspace Projects.
