Kwame Akoto was a professional sign painter before opening his own studio under the name "Almighty God Workshop" in the Kumasi mechanics' district in Ghana. The title bears witness to his personal revelation and the call of God, which he adopts as his artist's name. His studio work employs the commercial aesthetics of his hand-painted advertisements which are prolific in the urban landscapes of Ghana. He combines image and text and uses bright flat colours to cultivate images with strong links to collective visual memory, sacred and popular rituals. Akoto joined the Pentecostal sect of House of Faith Ministries in 1990 where he practises as a pastor and healer, and his artworks are used to communicate biblical messages and Christian faith.
