Elizabeth Sekyiamah is a Ghanaian painter widely recognised as one of the most compelling emerging abstract-figurative artists on the continent. Her paintings combine abstract mark-making, motifs drawn from African textile design, and depictions of Black women, creating a practice that is explicitly feminist in outlook and deeply rooted in the experience of young womanhood in contemporary West Africa. In 2022 she was awarded the inaugural Judith Ellen Prize, dedicated to supporting emerging women artists in Africa and the diaspora, and subsequently held a solo exhibition at the Nubuke Foundation in Accra. Her work has attracted international attention, including a feature by HYPEBEAST and inclusion in a group exhibition at Kavi Gupta Gallery, Chicago.
