a French patinated bronze figure, cast by Charles Louchet, Paris, circa 1915, modelled standing about to load his rifle, inscribed to shaped oval base 'CH MONGINOT' and in smaller letters 'CH. LOUCHET', 13.5cm high
See the previous lot for another infantryman by Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, both figures strongly evocative of the prevailing preoccupations of the French in war-time. Charlotte Monginot, daughter of the painter Charles Monginot (1825-1900), trained under Denys Puech (see following lot), exhibiting at the Salon from 1895. Whilst also a painter, she is primarily remembered for her sculpture in the Art Nouveau style. Charles Savinien Louchet (1858-1918) was brother to another artist and bronze founder, Paul Louchet (1854-1936), the Louchet family closely associated with the production of many Art Nouveau bronzes.
