BIRMINGHAM PROOF MARKS, CIRCA 1840 with octagonal sighted twist turn-off barrel fitted with swivel ramrod, signed engraved white metal side- hammer action with sliding thumb-piece safety-catch, folding trigger, blued belt hook, and chequered walnut butt with white metal cap fitted with steel trap (worn throughout) 20cm; 7Pin Henry van Wart was born in Tarrytown New York in 1783. He emigrated to England where he acted as a merchant in Birmingham from 1808. With his son George he traded as Henry Van Wart Son & Co, General, American & West Indies merchants 1833-54 and supplied Samuel Colt in London with powder-flasks.
