‡ AN ITALIAN MULTI-RING RAPIER, CIRCA 1630-40
with long tapering blade of flattened-hexagonal section, with traces of a mark within a short fuller on one face, rectangular ricasso, symmetrical iron hilt of rounded bars, comprising a pair of vertically recurved quillons, inner and outer ring-guards each of seven bars, the uppermost joined to the knuckle-guard by an additional bar, fitted with a scalloped plate at the base, fluted pommel, and retaining some of its grip with ‘Turk’s heads’ (now loose), 120.5 cm blade
