A talent snuffed out

Henri Gaudier (1891 - 1915), generally known as Gaudier-Brzeska, intended to become a painter, but, perhaps because he was the son of a carpenter, he found that sculpture came more easily to him.  Rather like Matisse in drawing, he had the ability to convey the essence of his subjects in sculpture by simplifying them, and in fact, he also did this when drawing.
